Indonesia GDP Tracker
The Unitrend Weekly Tracker of GDP growth provides a real-time high-frequency indicator of economic activity using machine learning and Google Trends data. It has coverage of Indonesia. The Tracker is thus particularly well suited to assessing activity when it is changing very rapidly due to the impact of a major shock. It applies a machine learning model to a panel of Google Trends, and aggregates together information about search behaviour related to consumption, labour markets, housing, trade, industrial activity and economic uncertainty.

Beyond GDP
CEB underscored that as numbers and the lack of them shape national and global policies in important ways, going beyond GDP was not just a macroeconomic or statistical issue, rather it interconnected all dimensions and key drivers of sustainable development and was deeply consequential for people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnerships.

While GDP is a key measure of economic activity, it does not capture all aspects of well-being. We are developing alternative indicators that complement GDP by providing insights into sustainability, inequality, and quality of life.
Alternative GDP
We are developing alternative indicators that capture broader aspects of economic activity. These indicators will complement GDP and provide insights into sustainability, inequality, and quality of life.

Methodology
The Unitrend GDP Tracker model captures search behavior related to consumption, labor markets, housing, trade, industrial activity, and economic uncertainty. This was inspired by the OECD Weekly Tracker of GDP growth and the work by Woloszko on using Google Trends for real-time economic activity tracking. We aggregate the data to provide a weekly estimate of GDP growth relative to the same week in the previous year. The data was partnered with Unitrend Media Monitoring and others qualitative measures to enhance the accuracy of the GDP estimates.
